Seeking His Presence Through Biblical Community

When we isolate ourselves from community, there is a lack of accountability for one’s faith. When we do not gather together as believers, the enemy has an easy target on our lives to deceive us. He is ready to come in and kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10).

In our continual need for repentance, redemption, and grace, our community holds us accountable. We are sharpened and challenged in our faith, while we challenge and sharpen other believers all the same. Proverbs 27:17 says, Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”  We are put in a position where a spiritual lightbulb can light up as we learn and grow spiritually alongside other believers.

While we are held accountable, we grow in our relationship with the Lord thus seeking more of Him and His presence. Jesus, when talking to His disciples, says, For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them” (Matthew 18:20). We read His word, we spend time in prayer, we discuss ways we can draw closer to the Lord. We seek the Lord together, and the Lord dwells among us as we gather together in His name.

This is the beauty of weekly small groups, equipping classes, mentor groups, and biblical counseling. Each involves two or more believers gathering together to study God’s Word, encourage one another, and seek His presence in new and refining ways.

Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” There is a desire for the Lord to refine and teach His followers according to His will. How often are we bold in our faith to seek the Lord in new ways? How often do we champion and uplift other believers in their faith?

Refuse to let the enemy deceive you into making excuses. Resist the temptation to isolate yourself from other believers. Consider challenging yourself to try something new. Challenge yourself to gather together with believers in a different way.
