Elizabeth Williamson fell in love with OCC as a college student, packing boxes on a limited student budget. She has continued to have a heart for this ministry and says, “I love that it’s such a simple, yet tangible way to get the Gospel into hands across the world.” As the Mill’s leader in this ministry, she is entering her second year with OCC.
Just before collection week in November, Elizabeth runs a large packing party. Last year around 1,800 boxes were packed which, along with the approximately 800 boxes packed by individuals and small groups, brought the total to 2,600. As in last year, there is a shortage of pencil sharpeners, washcloths and especially small toys. Each box costs $7 to send so financial contributions to defray that cost are also welcomed. Donations can be brought the night of the packing party as storage space in the church building is limited. Elizabeth will also be scheduling time for volunteers to serve in the Charlotte warehouse, preparing boxes for delivery.
Operation Christmas Child is a blessing to children and to those who love them enough to pack boxes for them.
